Dade County Rural School Locations book
The book was started many, many years ago by Hazel Yates and Betty Nelson. I have collected several maps and typed in the items previously hand written by the ladies mentioned above. I collected as much information as I could find to locate the schools and provide some background. James McNary did an excellent job of writing up newspapers articles on school consolidations and reorganization in the area. I created the index so the entire book is 192 pages. There are a few pictures. Kevin Esterline provided the excellent current day photo of Carlock school. I recieved permission from the Vedette to reprint articles from the newspapers. Although I did not know at the time the Carlock School is located on Krista Guy's farm I used it as the cover photo. Krista Guy and Marlene DeClue recently purchased the Vedette from a corporation which had run the subscriptions into the ground. So we are so happy to have them at the helm.
